SELLER’S NOTE:
This California-original 280Z 2+2 retains its original motor, which has been fully rebuilt with new +0.040 pistons, rings, and bearings. The engine was professionally machined – bored, honed, decked, and balanced – and reassembled using ARP studs, a 3-angle valve job, all-new springs and seals, new oil and water pumps, and a complete new timing set (chain, guides, gears).
The fuel system has been refreshed with new injectors, hoses, and a refurbished fuel rail. A complete header-back exhaust system was installed, including a muffler and a chrome tip.
The drivetrain features a rebuilt 5-speed transmission from a 1977 280Z, paired with a new clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel. The upgrade significantly enhances the driving experience. The original 3-speed automatic transmission is available separately for purists.
Suspension and braking systems have been completely renewed including new springs and dampers, new brake pads, refurbished calipers (with new seals and paint), new ball joints, and Energy Suspension bushings. Additional upgrades include Techno Toy tie rods and sway bars, a refurbished differential and subframe, and new tires on all four corners.
Inside, the 280Z features new carpet, a new shift knob, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, new leather seat covers, and refurbished interior panels (rear panels show some age-related cracking). A new dash cap maintains a period-correct appearance. Most weatherstrip seals have been replaced, and the original spare tire remains with the car.
All gauges and lights are fully functional. The original R12 air conditioning system is operational, as are the heater and interior lighting. An internally regulated alternator upgrade has been installed, eliminating common 280Z electrical issues. The car idles smoothly, delivers a rich exhaust tone, and pulls strong – easy to spin the tires.
Additional highlights include a professionally cleaned and coated fuel tank, new fuel pump and filter, and what appears to be a quality repaint by a previous owner. A white undercoating was applied for added rust protection.
Documentation of the restoration—including engine build photos and original sale paperwork—is included. No radio or speakers are currently installed.
We know that the end of an online auction can be a hectic place. Here are some tips & things you should know to help make it a little easier…
Lots will end 30 seconds apart.
To prevent bid sniping, last-minute bids will extend individual lots using our ‘soft-close’ functionality.
- If a bid is placed in the last 10 minutes, the lot will remain open for an additional 10 minutes.
- If any further bidding occurs, the extension timer will reset to 10 minutes.
- If no further bidding occurs, the lot closes when the timer runs out.
Place your max bid and let the system bid for you. In the event two bidders have placed identical max bids, the first bid received will be the successful bid.
You can “watch” lots for an easier way to keep track of items you’re interested in.
